Newby Nurturing is currently seeking skilled professionals to join our Houston and San Antonio-New Braunfels teams of Postpartum Doulas and Newborn Care Specialists! If you’re compassionate, committed to empowering families, and eager to provide exceptional care for newborns and mothers, we want to hear from you! 

Requirements: 

  • Minimum 5 years of newborn care experience. 
  • Personal breastfeeding experience is a plus, but not required. 
  • Comfortable driving for 30-40 minutes to assignments. 
  • Available for 2-5 nights and/or days weekly, with overnight shifts a minimum of eight hours and daytime shifts at least four hours. 
  • CPR trained and familiar with AAP safe sleep guidelines. 
  • Certification as an NCS or completion of Postpartum Doula training is preferred, however, training will be provided for the right candidate. 
  • Completion and verified background check will be required. 

Typical Shift of an Overnight Postpartum Doula/NCS:

  • Arrive at clients' homes to provide overnight care and support for new parents. 
  • Engage in conversations about the baby and their nightly routines (i.e. breastfeeding sessions, formula feedings, burping, soothing, diapering). 
  • Collaborate with parents to plan and carry out nightly care routines based on what is best for the family's needs. 
  • Assist with tasks such as folding baby laundry, sterilizing bottles. 
  • Offer to prepare snacks for mothers and ensure their hydration throughout the shift to facilitate smooth recovery and healing. 
  • Ensure safe formula preparation/breastmilk storage (according to CDC guidelines). 
  • Maintain frequent hand hygiene to prevent the spread of germs and ensure a clean environment. 
  • Adhere to American Academy of Pediatrics safe sleep guidelines. 
  • Set up in the preferred area of the home for parents' comfort, such as the nursery, living area, or guest room. 
  • Provide detailed logs of wake-up times, feeds, and diaper changes throughout the night. 
  • Offer debriefing sessions in the morning and share notes with parents. 
  • Provide evidence-based education and resources on newborn care, sleep, and breastfeeding. 
  • Offer a listening ear and safe space for mothers to discuss birth stories and parenting concerns. 
  • Connect clients with other professionals for specialized assistance beyond the scope of a doula's role. 
  • Offer personalized recommendations for books and resources on topics like infant sleep, breastfeeding, and formula feeding to create a supportive and nurturing environment for new parents during the critical early days of parenthood. and more!

Daytime Roles May Include:

 
  • Support with daytime routines, including diaper changes, feeding, and soothing
  • Assist parents with light household tasks, such as laundry and meal preparation.
  • Offer guidance on infant sleep patterns and establishing a healthy sleep environment.
  • Provide education on breastfeeding techniques and infant care.
  • Engage siblings in activities to help them adjust to the new family dynamic.
  • Accompany parents at appointments when appropriate to provide support.
